B
And if it's not,
E
it's simply a joke, you know
B
Turn, turn it on, turn it on, turn it on
A
You're not the only one
B
Turn, turn it on, turn it on, turn it on
A
You're not the only one
B
Turn, turn it on, turn it on, turn it on
A
You're not the only one
B
Turn, turn it on, turn it on, turn it on
Turn it on, turn it on, turn it it on
A
I didn't hear you, I'll be gone
Burned out, churned out, same old song
E
How predictable
B
Turn it on, turn it on, turn it on
A
You're not the only one
Turn It On's
been around from the first album
C#m
A
and it's a chorus that we wrote
C#m
A
when we were in the away from here
B
and had enough days
A
E
That first album had seven singles on it
E
an d at the point when we came
B
to record the album
C#m
B
we didn't need any more singles.
And we just shelved it and
forgot all about it
C#m
and I've always been hesitant to
B
go back to songs like that
A
B
because I don't like or I didn't
E
like revisiting songs.
A
It just takes you back to a place
C#m
where you were
when you wrote them
B
and sometimes that's
not a good place to go back to
but turn it on, we went back to it
because it's a great chorus.
the problem is we didn't have a verse
B
so we had this chorus
that was written about a girl at the time
who was just an idiot
C#m
and I didn't want to write
a song about that
because I've got no
B
passion there anymore
you know I couldn't care less about that person and
and so it's hard to find the passion
to write a verse about it
it just wouldn't have worked
so we had to keep the
lyrics and we had to
we had to find something else
C#m
to to be passionate about
and and something that fitted the lyrics
E
E
turn it on and the songs actually about you know the whole the whole
A
B
sort of television created music style where someone goes on
C#m
TV sings cries a bit and then becomes world -famous
B
overnight and Liam referred to it yesterday
as high -budget karaoke
I've refined that
and what I've decided
B
it is today is karaoke
because it's a cross between the
drama of Coronation Street
and high -budget karaoke.
It's basically you turn up,
you don't need to be able to sing
B
because they auto -tun
B
e you on TV now anyway,
so singing is not really that important.
You don't need to
be able to write songs
because you're going to sing
a pre -existing hit anyway
that some genius has written in the past,
of which you have absolutely no claim
to equate your fame to theirs.
And all you really need to do
is capture the public's hearts.
So all you need is a bit of Corrie
all you need is a bit of drama
and that's all well and good
and it makes good TV
E
and I could be fine with that
and go well do you know what
if you've had a tough life
you deserve a break sing on TV
and have a good time
except for that
that's not what's going on
what's going on is Simon Cowell
and he's and his cronies
are looking for people
who have got rubbish lives
so that he can have a
new Rolls -Royce
because he knows that's
how it works
and that's why he'll autotune
them
and he doesn't care if they can sing
and he'll choose a song
from his publishing company
which means he gets paid money
when they sing that particular song
and all he really cares about
is that they can make the public cry
so that he can sell millions of records
and buy himself a bigger Rolls -Royce
and it's not really on
and I kind of think it's about time
the public cottoned on
to the way that it works
and these people that have
had a rubbish life
they'll be picked up
out of their rubbish life
and Simon Cowell will spend millions
B
of pounds on them
and destroy the competitive nature
of the British music chart
in the process
meaning that real bands
who have a much smaller budget
can't get into those charts
and then when he's done
with that person
he'll send them back to their crappy life
and just forget all about them
and move on to the next one
and it's completely irresponsible
and it's just not on
and that's what Turn It On's about.
