Tonalité : E minor
Verse 1
Here's a song
Em
that was written way back in 1947
by a fellow named Stan Jones,
a National Parks Ranger in Death Valley.
About a year later it was recorded,
G
Em
first of all by Burl Ives.
Didn't make much noise
but it was picked up in 1949
by Vaughn Monroe and his orchestra
and was a huge smash hit.
G
Since then all sorts of other artists
Em
have done it
including Johnny Cash.
G
I hear Slim Forsythe's even got
Em
a version of the thing now.
But even though it has attained
such a high status
in the Great American Songbook,
it actually harks back to an
ancient Celtic legend
of the Banshee Host,
the Devil's Herd.
Relentlessly,
though though ultimately futilely pursued
through the cloven skies
by the ghost riders.
An old cow hen went riding out
G
one dark and windy day
Em
Upon a ridge he rested
G
as he went along his way
Em
When all at once
a mighty herd of red -eyed
C
cow he saw
Lowin' through the ragged sky
Am
Em
And up a cloudy draw
Their brains were still on fire
G
And their hooves were made of steel
Em
Their horns were dark and shiny
G
And their hot breath he could feel
Em
And a bolt of fear ran through them
As they thundered through the sky
C
Em
Am
He saw the riders comin' hard
Em
And he heard their mournful cry
G
Yippee -yi -hey
Em
Yippee -yi -ho -ho
C
Am
Em
Ghost riders in the sky
Their faces dark, their eyes are blurred
Verse 2
are soaked in sweat
Em
They're ridin'
Verse 3
hard to catch that herd
G
But they
Verse 4
ain't caught them yet
Em
Hell no, they're bound
Verse 5
to ride forever
on that range up in the sky
Verse 6
C
Am
On horses snortin' fire
Verse 7
Am
Em
As they ride, hear their cry
G
Yippee -yi -hey,
Verse 8
hey!
Em
Verse 9
C

Em
Ghost riders in the sky
As the riders passed on by
G
He heard one old man call his name
Em
If you want to save your soul from hell
G
And riding on this range
Em
Well cowboy, change your wicked ways
Or with us you will ride
C
Am
Chasing the devil's herd
Em
All across these endless skies
G
Yippee -yi -hey
Hey!
Em
Yippee -yi -ho -ho -ho
C
Am

Ghost riders in the sky
C

Em
Ghost riders in the sky

Ghost riders in the sky.
