I was in New York City, 1956, I believe,
to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show
and to re ceive a gold record
for his next song.
And Elvis Presley was there
to receive a gold record
for the same song.
It was kind of neat, you know.
And I had never met him
and I was anxious to meet him
because he was adorable, I thought.
I was crazy about him
because he loved his mother so much.
Well, we like that.
We like guys that are good to their mamas,
aren't we?
Because they're usually good to us, too.
And I was backstage,
and I could see this big, tall,
handsome figure
across the stage, in the wings,
and he came running across the stage.
It was during rehearsal,
an d he grabbed me.
That was my claim to fame
for the next five years.
Elvis Presley grabbed me!
He was so darling, and he said, He said,
I love you, you taught me how to sing.
I have never had such a beautiful
bouquet in my life,
and I'm sure I'll never forget it.
This should be a love song,
but it isn't.
It's all about a subject
dear to our hearts.
Money, honey.
You know the landlord rang my front doorbell
I let it ring for a long, spell
I went to the window
and I peeked through the blind
And ask him to tell me
what was on his mind
I money, hon ey, yes,
money, honey, yes
Money, honey,
if you want to get along with me
Now I was clean as a screen
and so hard -pressed
I called the man that I loved best
I finally got my baby
by the half past three
He said, I'd like to know
what you want with me
He said, money, honey, yeah, money,
honey, yeah, money, honey,
if you want to get along with me
Well, he screamed and said,
what's wrong with you?
From this day on, our romance is through
I said, tell me, baby, face to face,
now how could another
girl take my place?
He said, money, honey, yeah, money,
honey, yeah, money, honey,
if you want to get along with me
Well, I've learned my lesson
and now I know
The sun may shine and the wind may blow
The men may come and the men may go
But before I say I love the Lord
Money, hon ey,
plenty of it, darling.
Money, honey, yeah.
Money, honey,
if you want to get along with me.
Now if you want to get along, get that money,
if you want to get along,
cause I ain't got any, honey.
Hey, get me that money
if you want to get along with me.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
