E
Oh,
Little Joe the Wrangler
A
E
will wrangle nevermore
B
His days with Remuda are o 'er
E
It was a year ago last April
A
E
that he rode into our herd
B
E
Just a little Texas stray and all alone
It was late in the evening
A
E
when he rode into our herd
B
On a little Texas pony he called Chaw
E
With his brogues and shoes and overalls,
A
E
a tougher -looking chap
B
E
You'd never in your life before had saw
He said he'd had to leave his home,
A
E
his ma had married twice
B
His new pa whipped him every day or two
E
So he saddled up old Chaw one night
A
E
and quietly rode away
B
And now he's tryin' to
E
paddle his own canoe
He said if we would give him work
A
E
he'd do the best he could
Although he didn't know
B
nothin' about a cow
E
So the bossy cut him out a mountain,
A
E
Kindly helped him on for he's sort of like
B
E
That Texas gray somehow.
We traveled up the Pecos,
A
E
the weather being fine,
We camped down by the
B
south side of the bend,
E
When a norther started blowing
A
we called the
E
B
E
For it takes all to hold those cattle in .
Our little Joe the Wrangler
A
E
was called out with the rest,
B
The lad had scarcely gotten to the herd.
E
When those cattle a -stampeded,
A
E
like a hailstorm on they fled,
B
And we all rode hail for leather
E
for the lead.
Amidst the flashes of the lightning,
A
a horseman we could see,
E
B
It was little Joe, the wrangler in the lead,
E
He was riding old Blue Rocket
A
E
with a slicker o 'er his head,
He was tryin' to check
B
E
those cattle in the lead.
At last we got them milling
A
E
and kindly settled down,
When the XP guards
B
back to the wagon rode,
E
But one was a -missing,
A
E
we saw it at a glance,
B
Was our little Texas Stray,
E
poor Angler Joe.
Next morning, just at daybreak,
A
E
we found where Rocket fell,
B
Down in the washout, twenty feet below.
E
Beneath the horse's body,
A
E
a line where he fell,
B
E
Was our little Texas Stray, poor Angler Joe.
Oh, little Joe the Wrangler
A
E
will wrangle nevermore
B
His days with Remuda are o 'er
E
Was a year ago last April
A
E
that he rode into our herd
B
Just a little Texas train all alone
