When our daughter Emily was
about two years old,
we were out in the backyard and
sud denly the first spring rain
that she had ever experienced
started falling.
And I watched to see
what her response would be.
An d she lifted her face up
and the rain fell onto her face
and started running down her face
and it soaked her hair.
and I watched as she lifted her hands
with the palm of her hand up and
I realized that her first childish response
to a rain falling
was to lift her hand
and to and to do a dance and
And I realized at that moment
That's what the child of God should feel
like when we feel the presence of God
We should want to lift our hands,
we should want to express our joy
and to say thank you for life
and thank you for the refresh
ing in our lives.
And that's the reason the line is written
an d the leaves of the trees
turn their silver cups to the sky.
because even the silver maple
turns its leaves to
form that little silver cup
where the water falls and fills it.
And so, may all of our lives be filled
with the water of the Spirit of God.
The turtledove is singing
its sweet song of morning
The leaves of the trees
turn their silver cups to the sky
The silent clouds above
are beginning to gather
The barren land is thirsty, and so am I
But it's beginning to rain,
hear the voice of our Father
He's saying, whosoever will,
come drink of His water
I've promised to pour my spirit out
on your sons and your daughters.
If you're thirsty and dry,
look up to the sky.
It's beginning to rain.
The young man's eyes start to shine,
as he tells of a vision.
The old understands what he sees,
he's just dreamed a
dream.
Thrilled at being alive,
they reach for each other
And they dance in the rain
with the joy of the things
they've seen
At the first sound of rain that you hear,
throw open the window.
Go call all the children together,
swing wide the door.
When the rain of the Spirit is falling,
we should fill every vessel.
For we who drink are filled,
we'll thirst no more.
An d it's beginning to rain
Hear the voice of our Father
He's saying who so ever will
Come drink of this water
I promise to pour my spirit out
on your sons and your daughters.
If you're thirsty and dry,
look up to the sky,
it's beginning to rain.
If you're thirsty and dry,
look up to the sky,
it's beginning to rain.
