Tonalité : Ab major
Verse 1
G
Good evening.
It's a weird vibe.
Some of you are eating food.
You'll be masticating.
Well, I'll be doing that something
that sounds almost
like masticating.
Did you catch that?
Are you You OK with that?
Well, thank you for coming.
This is kind of this experi
A
ment we're doing,
G
where we put me,
G
A
your favorite American boy, here.
G
Well, come on.
I'm an American classic.
Admit it. Admit it. You like me.
You love me unconditionally.
You kind of do.
Because for all my
inherent fucked upness,
I'm OK.
I'm like a New York mugger.
I telegraph everything I'm gonna do
if you get mugged by me.
I should have your watch
You know, so if I if I piss you off,
you should have seen it coming
20 minutes ago and left already,
you know, so
Anyway, the concept is that I'll be
here every Wednesday this month
Just trying to do
something different every week
and it's gonna be like 10
hours of shit
And I'm wondering
how many lifetimes
must a man live
to come up with all this crap.
So I'm going to be stretching it really
fucking thin
coming up by the end of the month.
So we'll be doing the best I can.
A little bit of history.
C
This place is kind of run
G
by a man named Jean -Pierre.
About 150 years ago in 1987,
G
he had a place called The Loss
A
over on the Hudson,
G
really cool place.
F
So it's kind of like this raw space
G
an d he let really good
stuff happen there.
Bb
I was the last stiff on that stage.
G
I was the last guy
and I had just returned from
C
G
this tour of Europe.
I went there in August
and I came back in December.
I was just there forever
C
G
as you are want to do
when you are either super successful
or thoroughly obscure.
If you are like Dire Straits
G
or Madonna,
you go for touring for a year.
Or if you're Metallica,
you can tour every country
that has electricity.
Because you're huge
and everyone wants to see you.
Hey, right on.
We should all have so much of
a failure in our lives.
G
You know, because everyone digs
you
and you can go anywhere.
A guy like Sting can tour anywhere
he can plug in
because everyone wants to see the guy.
And if you're really broke,
You have to do, like, eight shows
a day just to eat.
D
G
And that was the bag I was in in 87.
So I was in Europe for months going,
Can I have a show?
Can I have dinner?
Yes, you can have dinner
if you'll go up on stage.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I was, like, hand -to -mouthing
it across the continent.
G
And so one of the last things I
ever did on his stage
was I read this page of Journal about this,
G
you know, crazy tour
that I just endured
and kind of triumphed over,
and I wanted to read that
page of Journal for you.
It's a page. and reading stuff on
stage to me is oh so lame.
