This next song is from the score
that many people believe
is Jerry Herman's finest.
I'm talking about Mac and Mabel,
of course.
Two great performances in that show.
My old friend from Music Man days
was so wonderful,
Bob Preston, oh so wonderful.
And Bernadette Peters,
continuing her love affair
with the New York audiences.
I asked Bernadette about working
with Gower
and she said that he had mellowed
somewhat
so that she had a wonderful
time working with him.
Of course that might have had a little something
to do with Bernadette too I think.
She said too that Bob Preston and Gower formed
a particularly warm working relationship
during that rehearsal time.
One day in rehearsal
Gower gave Bob some juicy bit of business
and and Bob put his arm around
his shoulder
and said Thank you, sweetheart.
